Milwaukee-Eight History

When Harley-Davidson creates an engine, they aren’t starting from scratch. For eleven decades Harley has been a leading innovator in the world of motorcycle engines. The first F-head motors launched the company to prominence, and inspired the development Flathead, and later Knucklehead engines which laid groundwork for the coming decades of air cooled engine design. The distinctive Panhead engine came next, rolling through the 50’s and 60’s, until the Shovelhead engine was unveiled in the first Electra-Glide touring motorcycles. The next big engine reveal came in 1984, when the first Evolution engines hit the road bringing new materials and a big boost to durability to the table. The last engine that Harley-Davidson produced was the Twin Cam engine in 1999, which was designed to provide the big block power that Harley-Davidson riders crave. Now the newest generation of bikes is rolling onto the road with a completely modern engine to match: The Milwaukee-Eight.

Milwaukee-Eight Performance

The Milwaukee-Eight delivers awesome performance, with better fuel economy, a smooth ride, and awesome heat management characteristics. The eight valve design that gives the Milwaukee-Eight its name works in synch with precisely timed electronic fuel injection to provide outstanding efficiency, while simultaneously reducing your emissions. Milwaukee-Eight engines are all rubber mounted, and built with a counterbalancer, so from the moment you roll onto the road you’ll feel a smoother ride that will make those long touring days fly by. Finally Harley-Davidson has included a precision cooling system in the Milwaukee-Eight that pulls heat away from the hottest parts of the engine to give you a cool comfortable ride even when you’re stuck in crawling traffic.

Milwaukee-Eight Power

Refined performance is an important part of your touring ride, but when you’re trying to pull past a line of semis, you’re going to need power. The Milwaukee-Eight puts plenty of power on tap thanks to the superior power to weight ratio, and big V-Twin design. This engine weighs in the same as the Twin Cam, but offers up to 10% more torque, to a total of 111 ft. lbs. The Milwaukee-Eight comes stock as a 107 cubic inch engine, but if you’re looking for more Harley-Davidson power, then you should check out the 2017 CVO bikes, which are equipped with a 114 cu. in. Milwaukee-Eight. For those who regularly ride with a passenger and a heavy load, you may find yourself wanting even more, and for those brave few the Screamin’ Eagle Stage III kits for the Milwaukee-Eight are ready to bump your motor up to a mind blowing 117 cubic inches!
